Ghost World
Based on the comic books by Daniel Clowes, it follows two teenage misfits dealing with the real world post high school.
With no direction, they move in and out of situations they created to cure their boredom. Thora Birch is creditable as angry Enid. She relies on her friend Rebecca (Scarlett Johanssen -pre-it girl status) for friendship but is resentful of her looks and popularity.
The movie changes direction from the comics by focussing on a prank on Seymour- a 40 year old jazz record collector. A relationship develops between him and Enid, when she becomes obsessed with finding him a date. This wasn’t particularly believable and became rather distrubing.
I liked the character development of Enid but was not impressed by Scarlett’s acting skills- Rebecca was as lifeless as a deflated balloon. The comics provide better background and scenes than the movie.
